Role summary
The Operational Excellence Director will lead the strategy, culture and deployment of continuous improvement across DX. This role drives operational innovation, service quality, safety, efficiency and automation to support the long‑term business strategy.
You will shape and execute programmes that optimise processes, embed Lean methodology, enhance reporting and deliver measurable improvements across the network.
Key responsibilities
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Lead the development and adoption of Lean, CI tools and best practice methodologies throughout operations.
- Establish a culture of continuous improvement that drives consistency, efficiency and service performance.
- Use statistical data analysis to identify performance trends and opportunities for optimisation.
Process, Standards & Compliance
- Oversee the creation and integration of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that support CI, service quality and professional accreditations (e.g., ISO).
- Own the audit strategy, schedule and compliance framework, ensuring clear action plans and accountability are maintained.
- Drive improvements in health & safety performance through effective management strategies and best practice adoption.
Automation & Operational Innovation
- Lead DX’s automation strategy, including assessment of current equipment, flow design and layout optimisation.
- Evaluate and implement technology for automated weight and dimension capture to support revenue protection and operational optimisation.
- Champion innovative operating models, process redesign and improved asset utilisation.
Performance, Reporting & Data
- Enhance reporting standards, dashboards and analytics for service KPIs, damage, claims, cost and efficiency.
- Work closely with Business Intelligence to develop modern, data driven reporting tools.
- Ensure operational decisions are informed by accurate, real time and accessible data.
Business Continuity & Risk
- Lead Operational Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery plans.
- Ensure robust risk controls are in place to maintain service resilience across the network.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven leadership experience in operational excellence, change management or continuous improvement.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in statistical analysis and data driven decision making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to challenge and influence constructively.
- Significant experience managing health & safety management strategies.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and deliver programmes with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong team working and networking abilities, with a proactive, independent working style.
Desirable
- Experience working within parcel, logistics or multi drop delivery environments.
- Understanding of self employed delivery models.
- Working knowledge of routing systems and route optimisation tools.
- Experience managing budgets, cost controls and operational efficiency programmes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook applications.
